Luca's Story

"Luca was able to peacefully step out of life. With dignity, calm, and love… and for this, we are deeply grateful to the Tábitha House.
Our little girl, Luca Tünde, is a true gift to our family and wider circle of friends. Imagine a radiant, healthy little girl, full of humor and charm. Her smile, joy, mischievousness, and intelligence brightened the lives of everyone who knew her.
Completely unexpectedly, suddenly, without any warning, a small lump appeared on her body, which we initially thought was a hernia. We went to the doctor immediately, and after many months of misdiagnosis, she was finally diagnosed with extrarenal Wilms tumor.
An infinitely difficult period began… not only physically but emotionally as well. A journey where we tried to preserve paradise for our little girl. We were somewhat fortunate that Luca always appeared to be a healthy little girl, only her lab results were terribly bad.
At first, she didn’t receive many treatments because it wasn’t necessary, but unfortunately, the disease recurred after she was declared cured. At that point, we realized that our little girl was leaving this world, and no one and nothing could help anymore.
She bravely and strongly endured everything until the very last possible moment. She never complained, and when her little body grew tired, we spent the last four or five days in the shelter of the Tábitha House. I heard about this possibility in the hospital, and it helped us tremendously.
In such a state, parents dance on the edge of reason and madness, collapsing from exhaustion—yet with full attention and pain, doing their best to care for their child... helplessly.
When I arrived at the children’s hospice house, my heart was incredibly heavy. I couldn’t comprehend that I wouldn’t be able to bring my child out alive from there. These are cruelly strong words.
In this unimaginably trying hardship, they provided us with genuine attention, humanity, and intimacy. The responsibility is immense, and a difficult prognosis for the end was given, which fortunately did not come to pass.
Unfortunately, children’s hospice care is needed. The work they do is beyond words.
For me, the Tábitha House is a gateway where they help release the earthly angels born here with dignity."
We sincerely thank Éva, Luca’s mother, for sharing her memories with us.
