Psychological Support

Types of Psychological Support and the Process of Care

Psychological services at Tábitha House are available free of charge to families raising children with chronic or incurable illnesses who are in end-of-life situations, as well as to families who have lost a child.

This support is offered to families from anywhere in the country, either online or in person — even if the child is not receiving care at Tábitha House.

If you are in need of psychological support, please feel free to contact psychologist Melinda Mező. After the initial consultation, the form and frequency of care will be determined on an individual basis.

When to turn to a psychologist?

If you or any family member find it difficult to cope with the illness or death of a child living with a chronic or incurable disease, or if you face many challenges in daily life that are burdensome for you and your family, do not hesitate to seek professional help. At Tábitha House, individual psychological consultations are available for the affected child, their siblings, and family members, as well as couple and family therapy sessions. Parents can also participate in support groups.

Psychological support is available in person at the house, as well as by phone or online upon request — so distance is no barrier, and we welcome inquiries from all across the country. Psychological consultations are free of charge, just like all other services at Tábitha House.

Experience shows that even one consultation can be very helpful, so we encourage you to seek professional support if you find yourselves in a difficult situation.

As a psychologist, I provide individual counseling as well as couple and family therapy consultations. At Tábitha House, I support children living with chronic somatic illnesses and those receiving palliative care, along with their parents and families. This includes addressing communication difficulties, questions related to the affected child or siblings, couple therapy consultations, individual psychological support, emotional regulation challenges, and decision-making difficulties. In complex family situations, new psychological coping strategies may be needed, and psychological consultations offer help in finding these.

At Tábitha House, we may meet through individual psychological consultations, couple and family therapy sessions, grief support groups, or during basic and advanced training sessions organized for our volunteers.
